City Council

It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the residents of Federal Way as I have served the last two years on the city council. Together we are changing the direction of the city.

Prior to my election, there had been an effort to follow the sad path of our big neighbor to the north, Seattle. There had been discussion of defunding the police and ignoring the problem of drugs and homelessness. Instead, we successfully authorized expanding the number of officers by nearly 10%. Rather than simply going along with the crime-tolerant attitude of the state legislature and King County, we have taken action to discourage the public use of drugs, sleeping on sidewalks, and stealing shopping carts from stores. We continually work on cleaning up and discouraging homeless encampments and graffiti, while at the same time referring those impacted by addiction and mental health challenges to the appropriate services.

The soon-to-open light rail station brings both challenges and opportunities to Federal Way. I am actively working to assure that our community is taking steps to encourage businesses and healthy market-rate housing to locate around the station.

We are turning the ship, but we still have far to go. I look forward to serving you the next four years as together we help Federal Way be a wonderful place to work, live, raise families and retire. I appreciate your vote.

Thanks
Jack
